Timing is Everything: When to Repair Your Roof

Posted on

One of the most common questions Salem roofing contractors get is, “When is the best time to replace or repair my roof?”

Firstly, it is important to decide whether you need to repair or entirely replace your roof. After that decision is made, it is crucial that you call a few roofing contractors right away to consult with about your options. That’s the rule of thumb to follow. Don’t procrastinate on calling a roofer after you find a problem with your roof. Now, with that in mind, here is the general schedule that you can expect any roofing contractor in Salem, Oregon to follow:

Late Fall / Winter

Late fall and nearly the entirety of winter will be slower for most roofing contractors, depending on precipitation. Oregon tends to be a very rainy place, which is double edged sword when it comes to roofing. The rain and ice can cause serious damage to your roof, but full roof replacement can be risky business in the rainy season. If your roof is torn off and a rain storm hits your home, this could result in tens of thousands of dollars of damage. If there’s a week or so of dry weather, it is sometimes possible to replace a roof in these seasons, but having good weather should never be relied on or expected. During these seasons, it’s generally easier to count on doing repairs to your roof and hold off on a full replacement until spring or summer. However, if replacement is your intention, be sure to tell your roofing contractor so that they can schedule your roof for replacement as soon as it is feasible. They should be able to give a general time frame estimate for your project. Spring and summer are very busy, and Salem roofers book up quickly, as their backlogs from fall and winter are generally quite packed!
